The following aesthetic-enhancement products are indicated for the various treatment options outlined below when used as directed by a clinician. These descriptions are provided for informational purposes only. The entire monograph for an agent should be reviewed for a thorough understanding of the drug's indications, actions, uses, and side effects.

Botulinum toxins

Botulinum Toxin Type A Purified Neurotoxin Complex (BOTOX® COSMETIC) is indicated for the treatment of cervical dystonia in adults to decrease the severity of abnormal head position and neck pain associated with cervical dystonia; for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis that is inadequately managed with topical agents; for the treatment of strabismus and blepharospasm associated with dystonia, including benign essential blepharospasm or VII nerve disorders in patients aged ≥12 years; and for temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in patients aged ≤65 years.

Clostridium Botulinum Type A Toxin-Haemagglutinin Complex (Dysport®) is indicated for use outside of the United States for glabellar lines, spasticity of the arm in patients following a stroke, dynamic equinus foot deformity due to spasticity in pediatric cerebral palsy patients aged ≥2 years (only in hospital specialist centers with appropriately trained personnel), spasmodic torticollis in adults, blepharospasm in adults, hemifacial spasm in adults, and axillary hyperhidrosis. FDA approval is pending.

Botulinum Toxin Type B Injectable Solution (Myobloc™) is indicated for cervical dystonias.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Hyaluronic acid gel (Juvéderm™ Ultra) is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Hyaluronic acid gel (Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus) is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Non-animal-stabilized hyaluronic acid (Restylane®) is indicated for filling moderate-to-severe wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

Non-animal-stabilized hyaluronic acid gel (Captique™) is indicated for the correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles.

Hylan B gel (Hylaform®) is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Hylan B gel (Hylaform® Plus) is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.

Collagen Fillers

Bovine collagen implants (Zyderm®/Zyplast®) are indicated for the correction of contour deformities of the dermis in non-weight-bearing areas.

Human tissue-derived collagen implants (CosmoDerm®/CosmoPlast®) are approved for the correction of facial wrinkles, acne scars, and other soft tissue contour deficiencies, as well as for restoration of the lip border.

Injectable donor fascia (Fascian™) is indicated to treat facial contour defects, including upper and lower lips, cellulite and dimples, nasolabial folds, acne and chicken pox, depressed scars, postsurgical scars, and fat loss in cheeks.

Autologous human collagen (Autologen™) is used to treat wrinkles, deep folds, and frown lines (especially in the glabellar region). It is also used for lip augmentation and for filling of depressed scars and similar indentations. Regulatory status is not required.

Calcium hyrdoxylapatite microspheres

Calcium hyrdoxylapatite microsphere implant (Radiesse®) is indicated for subdermal implantation for the correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus.

Synthetic polylactic acid

Injectable Poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra™) is intended for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy) in people with human immunodeficiency virus.

Polymethylmethacrylate microspheres

Polymethylmethacrylate microspheres implants (ArteFill®/ArteColl®) are indicated for the correction of nasolabial folds.
